Parent mentors work with families of students with disabilities on a daily basis providing them with tools, resources, and strategies that they can use to support their children at home, at school, and in the community.
IEP Facilitators: Wisconsin Department of Education
IEP Facilitation is a collaborative dispute prevention and resolution process useful in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of IEP Team meetings. IEP Facilitators are trained impartial individuals who assist members of the IEP Team in developing or reviewing a student’s IEP, while also addressing conflicts and disagreements that may arise during the meeting.
This high school program is founded on the importance of a student’s ability to make life decisions. The program provides students with disabilities the same fun experiences as their peers in areas of recreation, social activities, sports, and community service, which allows them to make a contribution to the school and community at large.
Transition Manual: Wisconsin Department of Education
Transition requires support for the student and his or her family to make choices, develop connections, and access services. The process begins no later than the first IEP, which starts in ninth grade or at the age of 16 or younger, if approved by the IEP team. The Wisconsin Department of Education Special Education Services and Supports has created a Transition Tool Box to support families through this process.
Wisconsin Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Consortium
The Wisconsin Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Consortium seeks to create opportunities for students who have historically not had access to post-secondary educational opportunities. Members of the Consortium are committed to providing information and training resources for individuals, families, colleges and universities, and agencies to achieve the goal of inclusive PSE opportunities for all.
The Project SEARCH High School Transition Program is a unique, one-year, school-to-work program for young people with I/DD that takes place entirely at the workplace. This innovative, business-led model of school-to-work transition features total workplace immersion, which facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on, worksite-based training and support. The goal for each student is competitive employment.
