The Arc Eau Claire was inaccurately referenced in a recent article about a horrific abuse case. They are in no way connected to the case and have issued the following statement.
The Arc Eau Claire, Inc. Response to Leader Telegram Article
Eau Claire, WI – 4/28/2020 – In response to the Leader-Telegram article dated 4/28/2020 by reporter Dan Holtz, The Arc Eau Claire, Inc. (“The Arc Eau Claire”) issues the following statement:
The article published inaccurately referred to The Arc Eau Claire as being a group home for people with disabilities and the employer of an individual charged in a case of neglect of a vulnerable adult.
These statements are false.
The Arc Eau Claire was founded in 1957 and serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the region. The Arc Eau Claire does not provide residential/group home services; rather we provide corporate guardianship for individuals with disabilities; support broker services (helping individuals/families obtain self-directed services and providers); and community advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
Again, the individual charged in this case is not affiliated with or employed by The Arc Eau Claire, nor is the supervisor or group home referenced in the article. The Arc Eau Claire was not contacted by the Leader-Telegram, Eau Claire Police Department, or District Attorney’s office prior to the publishing of this article, following the initial police report referenced, or the filing of the criminal complaint. As such, we learned of this incident today following the publication of this article, and out of concern for the privacy of the vulnerable adult referenced, we cannot comment further publicly on our relationship in this matter.
We take our service for individuals with disabilities very seriously and have been recognized over the years for our tireless support and advocacy. Like many, we were horrified at the allegations made in the article, and we will continue to diligently support the care, safety, and welfare of individuals with disabilities.
