With generous support from UnitedHealthcare The Arc Wisconsin was able to host two Future Planning trainings in Milwaukee on November 15, 2018 bringing national future planning expert and sibling Liz Mahar to Wisconsin. Host organizations Parent University and Alianza Latina Aplicando Soluciones helped to recruit dozens of spanish-speaking families and professionals who support people with disabilities and their families to participate in these events.
Of the 23 Spanish-speaking participants who completed a post-survey about the training 100% said they would now share future planning information with other parents; 95.7% are likely to set higher expectations for their own child.
Of the 19 professionals who completed a post-training survey, one-hundred percent increased their ability to use strategies to engage families in future planning. 85 percent indicated they had increased their abilities to implement comprehensive future planning with individuals and families. Understanding of the Letter of Intent tool – a key component of future planning – increased by 100 percent.
